Hevy vs TotalBodyIQ
Hevy is a very good app. This is not the page where we explain that the market leader is secretly bad. It is the page where we set out what each one is for, because they are answering different questions.
Who wrote this
We make TotalBodyIQ. We are a small team in the UK. Search “hevy vs” and most of the results are written by people selling a workout app while sounding like a review site. We are selling a workout app, so we have put that at the top instead. Hevy’s figures below come from its own published pricing and help documentation, checked on the date shown.
The short version
Hevy records what you decide to do, beautifully. TotalBodyIQ decides what you should do next and shows you the reasoning. If you already know your programme, Hevy is probably all you need. If the decision itself is the hard part, that is the gap we built for.
What Hevy does better than us
The social layer
Following, shared workouts, a feed, PRs your friends can see. If being watched keeps you consistent, that is a real training feature and we do not have it.
Reviews and reach
Hevy has a review count in six figures and years of public feedback behind its logging flow. We are rated five stars, but by a small number of people so far. If you want the safe, proven pick, it is Hevy.
A lifetime option, and a lower price
Hevy Pro is $2.99 a month, $23.99 a year, or $74.99 once for lifetime access. That is cheaper than our Pro tier, and a one-off payment is something we do not offer.
Hevy pricing and free-tier limits checked against Hevy’s published pricing and Pro help documentation, 31 July 2026. Tiers change, so check the in-app plan screen before subscribing.
Where we do something Hevy doesn’t
It reads your recovery, not just your last session
Hevy shipped Trainer, its own programme generator, as a Pro feature, and it adapts to your logged performance. That is a lagging signal: by the time your numbers drop, the bad week has already happened. TotalBodyIQ scores your readiness 0–100 from recent training load and rest days, then scales today’s session down before you dig the hole rather than after.
Volume, scored against a target
Every set you log is attributed to the muscles that produced it and measured against weekly set-volume landmarks: roughly ten to twenty hard sets per group. You see a body heatmap and a percentage of weekly target per muscle group. Shoulders at 128% means ease off; obliques at 5% means add a set. Hevy’s analytics are strong on what you lifted; they are not built to tell you which muscle group you are quietly neglecting.
Cardio in the same weekly picture
GPS runs, walks and rides with five heart-rate zones from your estimated max, counted toward the same load model as your lifting. Hevy is a strength app. If you do both, see the running and lifting page.
Nothing is a black box
Tap any score and you get a plain-English breakdown of exactly what fed it. No wearable required. It all comes from the sets you already log.

A small team, and a direct line to it
We have been straight about being newer and smaller than the alternatives, and listed it as a weakness. This is the other side of it.
Every message gets a reply
There is no support tier and no ticket queue. You email support@totalbodyiq.co.uk and it reaches the people who build the app, usually answered within 24 hours. Bug, question, or “this bit annoys me”. All of it lands in the same inbox.
Requests actually ship
A large app weighs your suggestion against millions of other users and a roadmap set months ago. Here it gets weighed against a short list. If what you are asking for is right for the app, it gets built, and if it is not, you will get an honest reason rather than silence.
And the app tailors itself
Sessions are generated from your history, the equipment you actually have and today’s readiness, not from a template with your name on it. Tell it you train at home with two dumbbells and that is the programme you get.
Tell us what your training needs and we will build it or explain why not. That is the one thing a large company cannot offer you.
Pick Hevy instead if…
- You already follow a programme you trust and want the cleanest possible place to log it.
- Training with friends is what keeps you turning up. The social layer is genuinely good and we have nothing like it.
- You want a one-off payment rather than a subscription, or the lowest annual price.
- You are on Android, or you log from a watch.
- You are wary of a new app from a small team. Fair.
Plenty of people use both: Hevy for the log and the feed, ours for the weekly picture. Our free tier makes that cost nothing to try.
See your week, not just your workouts.
Free tier is unlimited and permanent. Pro has a 14-day trial.
